Frequently asked

What people ask before commissioning.

Answers to the questions the studio hears most. If yours isn’t here, message us - we reply within two business days.

Orders & pricing

Are your pieces made to order or kept in stock?

Both. Each piece on the shop page is tagged either available now (ready to dispatch) or made to order (built once you confirm, typically 5–7 working days). Aso-Oke pieces and full leather builds are almost always made to order - we don’t pre-cut hides or pre-weave cloth before we know the home it’s going to.

Why are prices in Naira? Can I pay in USD or GBP?

Naira is our canonical currency because everything is made here. The shop will show USD and GBP estimates based on the current rate, but the final invoice will be Naira-denominated. International payments are handled via wire transfer or Wise.

Do prices ever change after I place an order?

No. Once you confirm the quote and we send the invoice, that’s the price - even if leather costs jump mid-build. We absorb that. The only thing that changes the number after confirmation is if you ask us to upgrade materials mid-process.

Custom & commissions

What’s the difference between “custom order” and “customise this piece”?

Customise this piece - you start from a piece already on the site (say The Iroko Tote) and adjust the leather, size, lining, or personalisation. Faster to brief, faster to quote. Custom order from scratch is the opposite: you tell us what you want to carry and how, and we design it for you. Both go through the same workshop hands.

How long does a custom commission take?

Two to four weeks for most pieces, depending on what’s involved. Briefing and design takes the first week, sample build the second, finishing and delivery the third or fourth. We’ll give you a specific date in your confirmation, and we don’t miss them - if anything looks like it might slip, you’ll hear from us early, not late.

Will I see the piece before it’s finished?

Yes. We send progress photos at the cut, structured-sample, and finishing stages. If anything needs adjusting, that’s when. After finishing, anything beyond a small detail change starts to require a full rebuild.

Wholesale & partners

I run a store. How do I stock Penchant?

Our wholesale programme is invite-only and we’re not currently accepting new applications while we finish our next season. If you’d like us to consider you when the programme reopens, get in touch with your store details and we’ll come back to you then.

What about private label?

Private label is on the same pause - we’re focused on the direct line for the moment. Existing partners carry on as normal; new briefs can be flagged via the contact page and we’ll be back in touch when the programme reopens.

Shipping & delivery

Where do you ship?

Within Nigeria (next-day Lagos, 2–3 day nationwide via vetted couriers), and internationally via DHL Express to most destinations. Full details on the shipping & returns page.

Can I collect from the atelier?

Yes - the studio is in Lekki Scheme 2, open Mon–Sat 10am–6pm WAT. Get the address and let us know you’re coming.

Care & repair

How should I care for my leather piece?

Quick version: brush, condition, store properly. Long version on the care guide page.

Do you repair pieces you’ve made?

Always. Anything we’ve made, we’ll repair - stitching, hardware swaps, full re-lining if needed. Standard repairs are at cost (no markup); structural rebuilds are quoted case by case. Reach out via our Contact page with a photo to start.
